ACMI beams down The American Astronaut creator Cory McAbee from New York
American Indy cult classic The American Astronaut, the sci-fi musical western that's been winning Aussie fans since its ACMI debut in 2007 - is back. This time, it comes complete with a Q&A with writer/director Cory McAbee, on the phone from the Big Apple.
What can you say about a low budget sci-fi shot against the backdrop of the American desert, using homemade sets only a fan of early Doctor Who could love? Well, according to TV Guide, "its characters may be one-dimensional ciphers with nothing much to say, but boy, do they not say it with style". Think Laurel and Hardy meets Salvador Dali, Fred Astaire on acid - or, if you can't figure out what you think at all, here's your chance to ask the man himself!
Head to our Freaky Fridays screening of The American Astronaut on Friday 31 October to hear first-hand from McAbee about the inspiration behind this musical motion picture - the film that makes Plan 9 From Outer Space look like Ordinary People.
