Free Play is back! It's the national conference for game artists brought to ACMI by Next Wave.
Jonathan Blow, programmer and designer of the award winning indy game Braid, will be at this year's Free Play. Featured in ACMI's Best of the Independent Games Festival 2006, Braid is a time twisting puzzler that allows the player to manipulate the flow of time in the game.
As you travel through different worlds, time behaves differently. Unlimited 'rewind' in the game allows the player to explore alternate approaches and differing causes and effects.
Jonathon will be speaking about what it means to be an independent games artist and the practicalities of shaping an idea into a prototype. Free Play caters for independent and DIY game developers, creatively frustrated professionals, game development students, digital and new media artists, and academics. Throughout the day there will be a program of keynote lectures and panel discussions, along with workshops, demonstrations and networking opportunities.
