The young and the wild
Where the Wild Things Are
Looking to tame young wild things these school holidays?
These school holidays, ACMI's hugely popular Kids' Flicks program will screen two fantastic feature films and a program of animated shorts.
Spike Jonze's adaptation of Maurice Sendak's Where The Wild Things Are (2009) is an opportunity for a new generation of kids to let their imaginations soar and for their parents to relive one of the most loved works of children's literature in the last 50 years. All tickets to this film are only $5. Click here for more.
Continuing our 'Wild Things' theme, Animated Kids' Classics features a compilation of Sendak's original storybook animations created for film. These free sessions will screen seven Sendak shorts back-to-back, all from the riches of the ACMI Collection. Titles include Alligators All Around (3 mins, 1976), Chicken Soup with Rice (5 mins, 1976), One was Johnny (3 mins, 1976), Pierre (6 mins, 1976), Really Rosie (26 mins, 1976), In the Night Kitchen (7 mins, 1987) and of course Where The Wild Things Are (7 mins, 1973). Session times are here.
Also screening these school holidays is Pixar's latest release Up (2009), which picked up an Oscar® for Best Animated Feature earlier this year. Up is the tenth feature film from the animation studio that brought us Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, A Bugs Life and Toy Story installments 1, 2 and now 3. Guaranteed fun and, in times like these, incredible value family fare with all tickets at $5. Session times are here.
While you're at ACMI these school holidays, why not make a day of it? Our Kids in the Studio drop-in workshops run on weekdays throughout the school holidays in Studio 1. 'Make your own wild thing' will allow kids to stretch their imagination when they create a character of their own and learn stop-motion animation techniques to make their 'wild thing' come to life on film. Kids in the Studio workshops are free and recommended for kids aged 5 to 12 years. Dates and times are here.
Whether you want to see kids' films come to life, taste some great cutting-edge animation or create your own, ACMI is the one-stop-shop for school holiday fun!
