It's Raining Pleasure - Toby Martin, Rob McComb & Graham Lee
The Triffids

Australian music luminaries pay tribute to a great musician in a new rockumentary celebrating The Triffids and their dearly departed front man

It's Raining Pleasure is a documentary capturing The Triffids' tribute concert, filmed during a four-night reunion that took place at the Metro Theatre as part of the 2008 Sydney Festival.

The concert was mounted to celebrate the genius of their work from Bury Me Deep In Love and Wide Open Road to exclusive unreleased later works, taking place twenty years after the band split and ten years after the death of founding member and chief songwriter David McComb in 1999.

In It's Raining Pleasure, the five remaining members of The Triffids talk to camera about life as a band, share personal stories of McComb and speak of his legacy, with contributions from Aussie rock legends to present day artists.

The esteem with which The Triffids are held among their contemporaries and those who would follow them is reflected in the incredible line-up of artists who perform with the band in this documentary, including; Mick Harvey (Birthday Party, The Bad Seeds), Ricky Maymi (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), Chris Abrahams (The Necks), Melanie Oxley (The Sparklers), Rob Snarski, Mark Dawson and Phil Kakulas (The Black Eyed Susans), Steve Kilbey (The Church) and Toby Martin (Youth Group).

The Church's Steve Kilby greatly admired The Triffids. "I was in a group and I thought I was doing pretty good. Suddenly, I heard about this band from Perth that was younger, smarter and more spontaneous. They didn't have a song list and they could play 100 songs. It was in the competitive days and I got my back up," says Kilby.

Kilby was granted the opportunity to show his admiration at these tribute concerts. "I finally got the chance to sing those songs, which is what I wanted to do as soon as I heard Wide Open Road. I thought, 'why didn't I write that?' That song had to be written. It was obvious," he said.

In 2008 The Triffids were honoured with an induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

It's Raining Pleasure rounds off a series of music documentaries that have screened throughout May as part of First Look. The film premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival earlier this year and will now screen for Melbourne audiences at ACMI from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 May.

Following the final screening, please join former Triffids member, Graham Lee and Director, Steven Levett on stage to discuss the film, the song-writing genius of David McComb and the band's enduring musical legacy.
