Unleash your wild thing
Kids in the Studio: Make Your Own Wild Thing!
Let the kids go wild in our free claymation workshop.
Our popular Kids in the Studio program returns these school holidays with an exciting new workshop. In Make Your Own Wild Thing!, kids can get creative with clay, using their imaginations to fashion their own fearsome and fantastical creatures.
They will then become the director of their own claymation movie, learning how to use stop-motion and modern digital techniques to bring their creature to life.
Kids in the Studio runs weekdays throughout the school holidays from 12pm to 4pm - just drop in any time. It's recommended for kids aged 5 to 12 and best of all, it's free! For more details click here.
Do your little ones need some inspiration for their clay character? Screening throughout the school holidays is a collection of free, animated kids' shorts from Maurice Sendak, including his classics Where the Wilds Things Are and Alligators All Around. For screening times click here.
Our Kids' Flicks program will also be screening the live action adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, directed by Spike Jonze, on Sunday 4 and Sunday 11 April. For screening times click here.
After the workshop, kids can use their clay crafting skills to enter our Mary and Max: Create a Character Competition. By sending us a snap of their own clay character, they could win an exclusive photographic print from Mary and Max signed by Adam Elliot, plus a DVD of the film. And of course our stunning free exhibition Mary and Max is open every day from 10am to 6pm for kids to get close up and personal with props and models from the film.
So bring your little monsters down to ACMI on the school holidays and let the wild rumpus begin!
