Luxo Jr at Pixar headquarters
The world's biggest Luxo lamp, the iconic and much loved symbol of Pixar Animation Studios, has been unveiled at the company's headquarters in San Francisco in a gesture of friendship from the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. The 6.5 metre Luxo Jr is made of steel and fibreglass, is lit by 18 energy efficient fluorescent light bulbs, and was commissioned by Melbourne's ACMI as a landmark gesture for its Flinders Street entrance.
It now takes pride of place at Pixar HQ in a symbol of friendship between Pixar and ACMI, and as a lasting legacy to the blockbuster exhibition which drew record crowds of 165,000 people.
