It's no Lye - last days

Turn off the washing machine, drop the shopping list - it's time to be inspired by Len Lye.

We can't offer you a 24-hour all-night extravaganza with bands and cabaret. But we can offer you a free mind-blowing experience by one artist who has created enough dynamic work that, when housed in one space, can feel like something of a hoopla.

Today Len Lye is the most internationally regarded Modernist artist from New Zealand and for only four more days, Melbourne audiences have the chance to see the most comprehensive exhibition of his work to date. If you've been putting it off and putting it off, you've literally got mere days left to come and check out the incredible work of this forward thinking modernist sculptor, filmmaker, animator, painter and photographer.

Whether you are an artist, designer, teacher, student, dilettante, philanthropist, economist, psychologist, clairvoyant or builder you're sure to get something out of ACMI's Len Lye exhibition. If you have already seen the exhibition but perhaps missed one of the kinetic sculptures in all its fury and might, or if you wanted to see Lye's masterpiece Free Radicals on the big screen one more time, or giggle at Blade and its liberal sexual inferences (or perhaps didn't notice that the first time), now is your last chance.

In the words of the artist: "Individual happiness now!"

Be selfish, leave your kids with your mum or bring them along; your boss won't notice if you leave early on Friday or take a slightly longer lunch, and that breakfast or lunch date you've organized for the weekend can easily be relocated to the city or postponed until next week. Surely you wouldn't miss the opportunity to have your mind blown, the natural and free way?

If you still aren't convinced, check out this video to get a sense of the beauty of Len Lye's work.

Len Lye closes this Sunday 11 October. Opening hours are 10am-6pm daily. For more information click here.
