It's time to get intimate
Gemma Ward & Rhys Wakefield in Elissa Down's 'The Black Balloon'
Get up close and personal with some of Australia's most talented directors
Deleted scenes, theatrical trailers, photo galleries, production notes, cast and crew biographies, alternative endings - by now you would've grown accustomed to extras galore being all part of the package with your DVDs. So we know how hard it is to impress you. But we think getting face-to-face with the directors themselves might just beat 'em all.
The Australian Director's Guild and the Australian Film Institute invite you to Meet Australia's Best Directors in this exclusive discussion and screening event at ACMI. Film writer and critic Laurie Zion convenes a panel of four directors who are vying for mantelpiece-adorning trophies in the AFI Award categories of Best Direction and Best Film, only hours before the red carpet stroll at the L'Oréal Paris 2008 AFI Awards on Saturday 6 December.
To gain insight into the directors' craft, hear inside stories about filmmaking and catch a glimpse of the films that earned these directors their nominations, come and meet Elissa Down (The Black Balloon), Peter Duncan (Unfinished Sky), Nash Edgerton (The Square) and Dee McLachlan (The Jammed), whose films are represented in several AFI Award categories ranging from Best Production Design to Best Editing to Best Adapted or Original Screenplay.
