Monkey Puzzle
Monkey Puzzle
Director Mark Forstmann pieces together the puzzle to make his debut feature film.

After years in development, Monkey Puzzle had its international premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival in June and returns to ACMI for an encore screening after making its Australian premiere here in September.

Set in the depths of the Blue Mountains, the film follows five twenty-something friends on their quest to find the prehistoric Wollemi Pine (the 'monkey puzzle' of the film's title). Pushed to the edge by the surrounding bush, both beautiful and threatening, the group's friendships are tested and tempers are frayed - imagine The Blair Witch Project minus the witch!

It's the first feature directed by Mark Forstmann, whose previous work includes four short films and documentaries for ABC TV and National Geographic. Mark will be available for a Q&A session at the end of the ACMI screening on Saturday 8 November at 4pm, to discuss the genesis of the film and his passion for the environment.

The impressive young cast of Monkey Puzzle includes Ryan Johnson (Underbelly), Ben Geurens (Blue Heelers), Ella Scott Lynch (The Falls), Billie Rose Prichar (Me, Myself & I) and Socratis Otto (The Rage in Placid Lake). For many of these actors, the film is their first major role in a feature film. Check out the trailer for Monkey Puzzle here and don't miss the chance to see this great new Aussie flick.
