opening the dialogue

A new major exhibition, the internationally acclaimed visual arts show Correspondences: Víctor Erice and Abbas Kiarostami is now open at ACMI.

Officially opened on Wednesday night by the Consul General of Spain, Miguel Utray, the exhibition explores the work of two independent cinema greats, Spaniard Víctor Erice and Iranian Abbas Kiarostami.

Conrad Bodman, Head of Exhibitions at ACMI, describes the exhibition as "first and foremost a dialogue between two great artists." Demonstrating the artistic parallels between the two directors through works that include film, photography and paintings, the exhibition culminates in a series of filmed exchanges between Erice and Kiarostami.

Originally curated for the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB), ACMI also hosted CCCB curator Jordi Balló and filmmaker and writer Alain Bergala, who were responsible for bringing the two filmmakers together specifically for the exhibition.

To complement the exhibition, ACMI have developed a series of public programs - including talks, workshops and education programs - and a cinema season, Focus On Victor Erice and Abbas Kiarostami, which will take place October 2 - 12 (details announced soon).
