The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang
All those who 'voted for Pedro', make sure you catch Tim Skousen's The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang.
Making its Australian premiere in Kids' Flicks, The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang owes a lot to Jared Hess' Napoleon Dynamite. The film's writer and director Tim Skousen was Hess' first assistant director, and its producer and co-editor Jeremy Coon also produced and edited Hess' indie comedy hit. To affirm the film's pedigree, there's even a cameo appearance by Napoleon's alter ego Jon Heder.
But don't expect just another Napoleon Dynamite; while Skousen's film has the same comedic touches as its predecessor, there's an underlying sweetness in The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang that makes it appealing to both kids and adults alike.
The film centres on fantasy-loving Gavin and his misfit friends Hobie and Maynard. When they discover what look to be the footprints and droppings of the legendary Bigfoot creature, they set off a chain of events involving non-believers, bullies and budding romances. Recommended for kids aged between 11 and 18, The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang has a mix of fantasy and coming-of-age themes that all young teens will be able to relate to.
The cast includes Carl Weathers (Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise) and Justin Long (who has starred in Dodgeball and Die Hard 4.0 but would be recognised by most as the cool and hip Apple Mac in those ubiquitous 'Mac vs PC' television commercials).
