Holiday fun at ACMI

Screen Worlds - Games Lab
The Games Lab in Screen Worlds
Looking to entertain the kids? ACMI has you covered with a range of fun (and mostly free) activities.

Our stunning free exhibition Screen Worlds has something to delight both young and old. Peer through the portholes and witness the magic of Anthony Lucas' The Faulty Fandangle, a mix of animation and mechanised shadow-puppets. Be mesmerised by the Ty the Tasmanian Tiger(TM) Zoetrope; capture yourself from every angle in the Matrix-inspired Timeslice; or pose for the camera and become a star in your very own flipbook!

Screen Worlds also houses a dedicated Games Lab and a special Kids' Space, where the younger members of the family can join in hands-on activities and watch animations on the big screen from the comfort a bean bag.

For those into gaming, check out the Best of the Independent Games Festival 2009, where you can play brilliant and offbeat new games for free. Or go behind the scenes in our free holiday workshop, Kids in the Studio - Top Secret Movie Magic! Running over two weeks in January, this drop-in workshop will teach kids the magic of green screen technology as they journey through enchanted forests, underground caves or even swim with dinosaurs! (Watch a movie created in our last school-holiday workshop here.)

Starting on Boxing Day, our Kids' Flicks movie program goes ape, with a selection of fun movies featuring primates. See where it all began with Tarzan and his best pal Cheetah in Tarzan, the Ape Man (1932), followed by comedy caper Dunston Checks In (1996). From Jan 18, let Curious George (2006) take you on a cheeky adventure from the jungle to the city, before lifting off with Space Chimps (2008), an animated sci-fi comedy.

If that just isn't enough chimp for your liking, you can also catch free screenings throughout January of the classic 70's TV series Lancelot Link Secret Chimp (1970-72), offering an all-chimp take on the spy genre.

ACMI is open every day over the holiday period (except for ChristmasDay) from 10am to 6pm.
