Alice in Wonderland
Alice in Wonderland
Step inside the mind of Tim Burton these school holidays.

ACMI's winter school holiday program is inspired by the spooky imagination of Tim Burton, showcased in Tim Burton: The Exhibition.

The program starts out with Through the Looking Glass, a series of workshops where children can don their favourite Alice in Wonderland costumes and create their own on-set adventures in Wonderland. The workshop features actual sets from the movie, courtesy of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

For budding young filmmakers, we have Make a Movie: Burton a-go-go, a three-day workshop tailored to 10 to 14-year-olds. Under the guidance of ACMI staff, kids will learn the basics of how to make a short film, drawing inspiration from Burton's iconic cinema works such as Beetlejuice and Alice in Wonderland.

There's nothing quite like going to the movies and ACMI delivers the goods with free Kids' Flicks screenings these holidays. Tim Burton's Slightly Spooky Stories features Burton's earlier works Frankenweenie, a re-interpretation of the Frankenstein tale, and Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp.

It is a little known fact that Tim Burton was one of the animators of Disney film The Fox and the Hound, which will screen in Kids' Flicks on Sun 27 June and Sun 4 July as the beginning of our whopper Tim Burton Film Retrospective, which runs till October 10.

The Kids' Flicks series features works by other film directors too, with A Town Called Panic and Komaneko: The Curious Cat, and will culminate with a screening of Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands on Sunday 11 July at 10.30am and 1pm.

While at ACMI these school holidays, a visit to Tim Burton: The Exhibition is an absolute must! ACMI has even designed a special Kids Exhibition Trail recommended for children aged 5 to 10. The trail is explored by following a 'monster' character through the exhibition and features activities along the way to ensure families have the most fun.

The 'trail' ends at a Kids' Activity Space which gives even the youngest art lovers a place to get creative, while being surrounded by inspiring and imaginative works of one of the world's best!
