Robbie McEwan
Robbie McEwan's 'Galactic Sex Wars'
The best showcase of student filmmaking returns to ACMI

The year is 3069. A bitter struggle between homosexuals and Christian fundamentalists rages on and it's up to the last gay star fighter to save 'Homokind'. It may sound like Star Wars directed by Carson Kressley, but it's actually Robbie McEwan's Galactic Sex Wars, one of the short films featuring in the VCA Film and TV Grad Show 2008.

This year's program features over fifty shorts in a variety of genres from animation to live action and documentary. Highlights include Virginie Tetoofa's E Arioi Vahine, a visually impressive film shot entirely on location in Tahiti, and Eye Lash, a moving animation directed by Elka Kerhofs. Leila Koren's Private Baby takes a glimpse into the surreal and seductive world of burlesque dancing through the eyes of young Melbourne dancer Miss Sugar Puss. And Anna McGrath returns from a successful tour overseas showcasing her 2007 work Small Change (shown at last year's screening) to present her new film Swings and Roundabouts.

The VCA Film and Television School has an international reputation for the quality of its graduates and productions. Previous VCA alumni include Adam Elliot (of Harvie Krumpet fame), Robert Luketic (director of Legally Blonde), and Anthony Lucas (Oscar nominee for The Mysterious Adventures of Jasper Morello). Here's your chance to see the future of Australian talent on the big screen before they hit the international circuit.
