new warhol documentary at acmi

As part of the Art Stars series, ACMI is proud to present the Australian premiere of a new documentary feature, Andy Warhol: A Documentary Film.

Perhaps the most comprehensive documentary on the artist to date, A Documentary Film is an epic offering clocking in at just under 4 hours (don't worry, there will be an interval). Beginning with his childhood in a Pittsburgh ghetto through to his rise as famously infamous cultural icon, director Ric Burns presents an absorbing portrait of Warhol, one of pop culture's most influential figures.

Narrated by Laurie Anderson, Burns' work compiles extensive archival materials and interviews to immerse viewers into Warhol's unique environment of celebrity, commerce and counterculture, in turn serving as an engaging snapshot of this era of America's cultural history at large.

A Documentary Film is part of a series of Australian premiere features in the Art Stars program at ACMI, including the upcoming Life Through A Lens, a documentary on celebrated photographer Annie Leibovitz, and Black White + Gray, a portrait of Robert Mapplethorp and Sam Wagstaff, the collector and curator responsible for propelling his career.

"Smart, scholarly and entirely absorbing" (The New York Times), don't miss Andy Warhol: A Documentary Film screening 25-28 October at ACMI.
