On The Ropes
On The Ropes
From the makers of The Kid Stays in the Picture comes one of the most sublime, gripping, triumphant and heartbreaking documentaries of the 1990s.

Situated in the heart of Brooklyn's toughest neighbourhood - Bedford Styvesant - sits the run-down, old style "goodfellas" business, the New Bed-Stu Boxing Gym. Inside lies a second chance for those who inhabit it.

On the Ropes poetically dances and weaves through the lives of four of those inhabitants, who are literally fighting for life.

George Walton is the contender circled by sharks, Noel needs a father and Tyrene needs respect. Holding them together is Harry, a former boxer who never had a chance, whose dreams rest on the shoulders of those he trains.

Together they find their biggest fight is outside the ring and we discover enormous rewards in the smallest moments of their story.
