Backroads
Phillip Noyce's legendary first featurette, a gritty hybrid of B-noir, 1970s road movie and black-white race relations allegory, stars Bill Hunter and aboriginal actor/activist Gary Foley as a pair of petty criminals on the run in a big yellow Pontiac along the dusty roads of western NSW.
Screens with Rate of Exchange (Edward Ogden, 30mins, Australia, 1978, 16mm, NFSA), a tall tale about an outback drinking competition performed by a first eleven team of iconic Australian acting legends including Bill Hunter, Max Cullen, John Meillon, Robert Darra, Tex Morton and Roger Ward.
Presented in collaboration with the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia.
