Newcastle
We head back to the surf with this coming of age drama from writer/director Dan Castle. Set on the coast of the NSW industrial city of Newcastle it is a tale of sibling rivalry and developing identity.
Jesse (Lachlan Buchanan) is seventeen and not interested in much else besides surfing. Younger brother Fergus (Xavier Samuel) follows an alternative path, recently embracing his homosexuality. Things take an uncomfortable turn when older half-brother Victor (Reshad Strik) intrudes on their weekend away with mates.
Cast also includes Shane Jacobson (Kenny), Barry Otto and Joy Smithers with Andrew Johns, Layne Beachley and Mark Richards in cameo roles.
Co-presented with Midsumma 2010.
