Nightmares
Inspired by the success of John Carpenter's Halloween, director John Lamond makes his own entry into the slasher genre.

Mainly set in the theatre world, the film starts with a brief prelude where a young girl witnesses the death of her mother in a gruesome car accident.

The girl grows up to be an actress with an unhealthy fascination with shards of glass. It's not long before the bodies begin to pile up, offering a queasy array of stabbings and castrations.

Notedly, Nightmares features critic John-Michael Howson playing to type as a bitchy theatre critic, which was rumoured to be a thinly veiled attack on The Age film reviewer, Colin Bennett.

30th anniversary screening.
