Palm Beach
Palm Beach
Set on the northern beaches of Sydney, Palm Beach is a gritty drama that mixes surf, sex and a soundtrack of abrasive Aussie rock.

With a cast of motley characters, this mostly improvised film follows a day in the life of Joe (Ken Brown), a wayward outsider on the hunt for drugs with his surfie mate.

Director Albie Thoms was nominated for an AFI Award for this rarely-seen work, which established him as a major talent straddling the experimental and narrative feature forms. Indeed, Thoms is widely regarded as a seminal figure in Australian avant-garde filmmaking via the notorious Ubu film movement.

Recognised as a work of significance, Palm Beach was recently restored via the Atlab/Kodak collection, and will screen in a brand new 35mm print.
