Ollie Rennie (Garry McDonald) is the crusty director of Saltmarsh, a sheltered workshop for young adults with Down's Syndrome. He protects his charges and treats them with a level of dignity and respect.

When funding is approved for a new physical education teacher, a bolt of lightning strikes the institution in the form of Pat Cannizzaro (Brian Vriends) who sets out to mould Saltmarsh's motley assortment of adults into a competitive team of soccer players. Catherine McClements (TV's Rush) co-stars.
