In retrospect, Bruce Beresford's film version of David Williamson's iconic play is a nostalgic look at a quintessential Australian passion - Aussie rules football - before the game went national and when corporate involvement was minimal.

Following the fortunes of a football team as they rise from the bottom of the ladder (the fictional team is essentially Collingwood), The Club features amongst its cast footy legends such as Peter Daicos and Rene Kink, alongside Jack Thompson and Graham Kennedy.

A panel discussion will follow the screening on Saturday 11 September, hosted by the Australian Film Critics Association.

This 30th anniversary season is co-presented by The National Sports Museum, Melbourne.
