Turn On (1974) Videotape, colour, sound, 22:04 min
Acconci's obsessive close-ups confront the viewer in this highly charged performance video.
Vito Acconci began his career as a poet in the1970s, and progressed from live readings through to conceptual performances and installations that incorporated video. Since the early 1980s, Acconci has been designing architectural and installation works for public spaces.
Turn on is one of many of Acconci's video works that dramatise the latent aggression in the relationship between performer and viewer, drawing the viewer into the intense psychological space of the work.
