Scorsese's remake of the 1962 classic starring Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck is an unnerving thriller played out by Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte.
Sam Bowden (Nolte) is a troubled man, full of flaws in the throws of trying to save his dysfunctional family with wife Leigh (Jessica Lang) and daughter Danielle (Juliette Lewis). However all their lives take a much graver turn when Max Cady (De Niro) is released from 14 years in prison and is out to seek revenge on his laywer (Bowden) for what he believes was a poor defence.
When Bowden reaches breaking point he seeks help (in a nice touch from Scorsese) from Lieutenant Elgart (Robert Mitchum) and a lawyer (Gregory Peck).
Displaying his unquestionable talent as a director, Scorsese and his cast gained a number of nominations for
Cape Fear including a slew of Oscars, BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and a nomination for Best Film at the 1992 Berlin Film Festival.
