Celebrating cinema's passionate obsession with itself, the Remembered By explores the play of remembrance - active recall, associative linkage - between our favourite films and the films they are remembered by.
Each week, ACMI presents a double or triple bill that traces some of the great movie connections.
The program kicks off with James Whale's original Frankenstein (1931), a film that remembers the early German silent classic Der Golem, and in turn is remembered by Victor Erice's profoundly beautiful The Spirit of the Beehive (imported 35mm print).
Throughout the Remembrance Cinema Program ACMI launches exclusive limited seasons of three brand new 35mm prints: Charles Laughton's The Night of the Hunter starring Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters and Lillian Gish (April 17); Robert Aldrich's noir classic Kiss Me Deadly (22 May); and Alexander Mackendrick's Sweet Smell of Success starring Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis (3 July).
Other highlights include the glorious 70mm restoration print of Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo which screens with a new, imported 35mm print of Chris Marker's Sunless (April 24-27).
