Screen It! 2005 Category 1: Video Game
Winner: Jared Christensen Kalinda Primary, Vic
Super Soccer! with the other winning entries and finalists for Screen It! 2005 is screening at ACMI in the Memory Grid throughout March.
Why I chose to do a game Because I had made lots of games before on Gamemaker software, and I knew how to do it quite well.
Why I chose soccer Soccer is my favorite sport and I had an idea what to do for a game.
Process using Game Maker The first thing you do is to add the sprites (pictures of what is in the game) and make them into objects, so you can program them to do certain things. Then you do all the complex programming, make the levels, get family members to test it and add sounds and backgrounds.
Difficulties I had limited time to make this game, as we found out about it 2 weeks before the competition closed. I was attending a 'Gateways' video making course at ACMI. The staff at ACMI mentioned the competition and I was really keen to enter. With the game itself, I had some problems with the boss player at the last level, but that was about it.
People to thank MUM - for her encouragement and effort to get my entry in just before closing date. DAD - for not telling me to get off the computer. ACMI - for giving me the opportunity to enter the competition (and their friendly staff) KALINDA P.S.(my primary school) - for providing opportunities for me to attend 'Gateways' courses GATEWAYS - for providing a course at ACMI SPONSORS - (THQ) (Lego) for supporting this competition
