Jane Eyre
After a loveless childhood of deprivation, Jane Eyre (Mia Wasikowska) leaves the Dickensian atmosphere of Lowood Hall to be engaged as a governess at Thornfield Hall, an isolated and imposing estate presided over by the gloomy and inscrutable Edward Rochester (Michael Fassbender).
Cary Fukunaga's faithful adaptation of the literary classic by Charlotte Bronte is as sweepingly dramatic in scope and gothic in tone as the 1943 black and white version made justly famous by Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine.
The impeccable leads are lent terrific support from a fine cast of British talent including Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot), Sally Hawkins (Made in Dagenham) and the inestimable Dame Judi Dench as Mrs Fairfax.
"Michael Fassbender is positively swoon-worthy. Australian actress Mia Wasikowska augments her spectral beauty with the perfect combination of fragility and independence in a performance that cements her reputation as a sparkling new talent" - Sydney Film Festival
