The Kid with a Bike
Eleven year old Cyril (an impressive performance from newcomer Thomas Doret) is determined to track down the father who has left town with no forwarding address.
He recruits a local hairdresser, the practical, kind and emotionally direct Samantha (Cecile de France) to his dogged cause, but finding his father is only the beginning of Cyril's quest. Confused and bewildered by his father's betrayal, Cyril falls back as best he can on his untested wits and bruised instincts.
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes, the Dardenne brothers' acute and unsentimental humanism finds perfect expression in a film whose social realism has quite perceptively been compared with a corresponding 'quality' in the literature of Charles Dickens.
