Mid-August Lunch (Pranzo di Ferragosto)
Middle-aged Gianni may fancy himself a man about town in the cafes of Rome, but at home his formidable 93 year old mother still rules the roost.
When Gianni finds himself housebound with his mother and three other mildly cantankerous elderly women across the Ferragosto long weekend holiday (when most sensible Italians have escaped to the beach), he decides to host a festive lunch.
The delightful directorial debut by established screenwriter Gianni Di Gregorio (who also appears in the lead) received multiple awards, including the Luigi De Laurentiis award for Best First Film at the Venice International Film Festival.
