Me and Orson Welles
It's 1937 and New York teenager, Richard Samuels (Hairspray's Zac Efron) can't believe his luck when he scores a bit part in a Broadway production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar being adapted by a hot-shot young playwright named Orson Welles (newcomer Christian McKay).
Adapted from Robert Kaplow's exhaustively researched work of historical fiction, Linklater's film vividly evokes the charged backstage atmosphere at Welles' Mercury Theatre, while McKay's bravura performance faultlessly evokes the mercurial temperament of its brilliant, volatile artistic director.
Claire Danes and Ben Chaplin (who appeared together in Stage Beauty), Eddie Marsan (Happy-Go-Lucky) and Kelly Reilly (Mrs Henderson Presents) excel in well defined supporting roles.
