Seraphine
Seraphine
A sensitively dramatized portrait of French 'naïve' painter, Seraphine de Senlis (1864-1942), Provost's handsome film collected seven well-deserved French Cesar awards (France's Oscar equivalent) including Best Film and Best Actress for Yolande Moreau (Louise Michel).

At 41, the unassuming housemaid and self-taught artist begins to paint intensely vivid canvases at the apparent instigation of a guardian angel. Wilhelm Uhde (Ulrich Tukur), a German art critic and collector, chances upon the paintings, recognizes their merit and resolves to champion the fledgling artist's work despite misgivings about his protégé's preparedness to navigate the art world.

"Provost's fictionalized portrait of this forgotten painter is a revelation.A testament to the mysteries of creativity and the resilience of one woman's spirit, Seraphine is a marvel" Toronto International Film Festival
