Writer-director Christophe Barratier's follow up to the highly successful Les Choristes (2004) was a hit as the opening film of the 2009 French Film Festival.

An ensemble of talented vaudeville comedians, singers and dancers inhabit this charming stage musical, set in a 1930s music hall but also borrowing freely from Hollywood musicals such as 42nd Street (1933).

Gerard Jugnot (who also played the lead in Les Choristes) brings heart and humour to the role of the put-upon stage manager Pigoil who is determined to save the Chansonia Theatre from closure.

"Good, old-fashioned entertainment. Nostalgia at its purest." The Age
