Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky
Kounen's opulent, intimate drama explores the rumoured affair between two mercurial personalities - French fashion doyenne Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel (Anna Mouglalis) and avant-garde Russian composer, Stravinsky (Mads Mikkelsen) - set against a backdrop of early 20th century Paris.
The film's dramatic opening sequence recreates the 1913 debut of Stravinksy's ballet,
The Rite of Spring, which caused a riot among an opening night public unprepared for its modernity. Madame Chanel is shown in attendance, rather more evidently fascinated by the performance she witnesses.
"Stravinsky's immortal music richly abetted by Gabriel Yared's original score and exquisite sets from designer Marie-Helene Sulmoni are a movie unto themselves. A Deco delight"
