Synopsis

Arlene TextaQueen's saucy Textanudes deck of cards comes to life with a snap and a twist in this engaging mix of live action and animation.

Biography - Arlene TextaQueen

Born 1975, lives and works in Melbourne.

Arlene TextaQueen has been devoted to her felt-tip marker medium for over seven years (not including her childhood dedication) and has been drawing nude portraits for nearly as long. Exhibiting widely and wildly, from Sydney's Squatspace to Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, international intimate slide shows to solo exhibitionist in the 2002 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras at Mori Gallery, and featuring in Primavera, 2002, at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art, TextaQueen is ever prolific and keen to exhibit.

Artist Statement - Arlene TextaQueen

'As Arlene TextaQueen I use the marvellous medium of felt-tip marker to create Textanudes: portraits of unique women un-dressed-up in their own private environs. With the collaboration of video maestro Anna Helme, Snap! brings to life my felt-tipped friends for the first time when a game of Textanude cards deals out more than expected to its lovely live players. The intimate illustrations are re-con-texta-ualised in their interactions with the actress's colourful characterisations, playing with caricature across media to a comedic conclusion.'
