Regarded as one of the defining moments of modern horror, this film released with the following patron advice: "To avoid fainting, keep repeating 'It's only a movie.it's only a movie.'" Loosely inspired by Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Springs, Wes Craven's shocking and controversial revenge film was the final bloodied nail in the coffin of the 'Summer of Love'. Two teenage girls from middle-class families are kidnapped by a group of unrepentant ex-cons. The girls are tortured, raped and finally murdered by the sadistic gang but the brutality doesn't end there; when the gang members unwittingly wander onto the victims' suburban turf, the girls' parents exact their own horrific brand of vigilante payback.
