    Is there an entry fee?
    Entry to ACMI is free. Admission prices to cinema programs, ticketed exhibitions and other events are listed with the event details in our calendar.

    Buying Tickets
    Tickets for paid exhibitions and a range of festivals, screenings, talks and live events can be purchased online or at the Tickets & Information Desk. Check the Buy Tickets page for more information.

    Things to be aware of when planning your visit

    At certain events and in areas where taking photos or videos has been restricted, you must not use photographic or recording equipment (including tripods, flash or lighting equipment) without the express permission of ACMI. Don’t think we won’t know.

    Adults must, at all times, supervise any children (including school students) for whom they’re responsible and ensure that they don’t breach any of our Conditions of Public Entry (or leave chewing gum on the cinema seats). Children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian at all times when on ACMI premises.

    Clothing and footwear
    Clothing and footwear must be worn at all times when at ACMI to protect you from injury and/or public humiliation.

    Don’t leave bags and/or belongings unattended while visiting us. In certain galleries, we may ask you to cloak your bag, free of charge.

    Please note: at David Bowie is all backpacks and bags larger than 30cm x 40cm are required to be cloaked, free of charge.

    Food and Drinks
    Food and drinks aren’t permitted where artwork is displayed or other specified areas. Our cinemas, however, are a different story.

    A taxi rank is located across the road from Federation Square outside Flinders Street Station.

    Public Transport
    You can catch buses, trams or trains to Federation Square. Timetable information is available from Public Transport Victoria by calling 1800 800 007 or on their website at:

    Tram numbers 48, 70, 75 and the City Circle tram stop on Flinders Street outside Federation Square. Tram numbers 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 22, 64, 67, 72 stop outside Flinders Street Station.

    What is ACMI?

    ACMI is the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, a world first, state-of-the-art facility for the exhibition, promotion and preservation of Victorian, Australian and international screen content.

    It is about the moving image in all its forms - film, television, games, video and digital media. ACMI features:

    • The world's largest screen gallery - over 1500 square metres
    • Two multi-format cinemas
    • Hands-on interactive, education and production zones
    • Victoria's largest collection of moving image material - including 16mm and 35mm film prints, publicity photographs, film posters and unique objects

    Where is ACMI?

    How much does it cost?

    Entry to the ACMI building is free. Admission prices to cinema programs and other events are listed with the event details in our calendar.

    When can I go?

    ACMI is open daily 10am to 5pm. The cinemas and ACMI Cafe and Bar are open later. For specific screening times use our calendar search

    Where do I get tickets?

    The ACMI Tickets & Information Desk is located on level one (Federation Square). Here you can purchase tickets for events, exhibitions, and screenings. Alternatively you can purchase tickets to film screenings online.

    Do I need to book?

    Tickets are available from the box office up until the session begins. However, on occasion events and screenings have sold out, so if you really don't want to miss out, it is advisable to buy tickets in advance.

    How can I get involved with ACMI?

    Apart from experiencing the diverse range of events and programs ACMI presents, there is a number of other ways you can get involved with ACMI. Subscribe to the ACMI newsletter, become an ACMI Membervolunteer to work at the Centre, apply for a job, or provide sponsorship support.

    What access is available to visitors with disabilities? 

    There is wheelchair access into and within our facilities. For more information go to access.

    What services are available to assist the hearing impaired? 

    If you experience difficulty hearing, assistive listening devices are available for use in the ACMI cinemas. The devices use your standard headphones or can connect with your hearing aid via a neck loop. Present your identification at the Tickets & Information Desk on the Entry Level to borrow a device, free of charge. 

    I lost something while I was ACMI. Do you have a lost and found? 

    Please ask at our information desk or call (03) 8663 2200. We hold onto found items for two weeks before sending to charity. 

    Can I have a function at ACMI? How much would it cost? 

    There are many unique spaces available for hire at ACMI. A private film screening, corporate presentation or even a wedding reception, our event coordinators can advise and quote for a variety of events.
