Memory Grid is an interactive exhibition space at ACMI that lets you access outstanding short films by students, independent filmmakers and participants in our production workshops.

Just as we keep photo albums of important images from our lives, the moving image is a powerful way to record our memories. For the Memory Grid, ACMI has collected over 100 hours of film that record the unique stories from our diverse communities.

Memory Grid gives independent filmmakers a rare opportunity to showcase their outstanding works to the public. Some selected films are personal and nostalgic, while others are powerfully political. Many will make you laugh, and some will make you cry. As well as a wealth of imaginative animated short films, the Memory Grid also includes a selection of rarely-exhibited interactive works. The result is a truly unique resource that collects together stories from a wide range of cultures and perspectives.

Featuring custom-designed interactive interfaces and comfy Memory Grid 'Pods', the space is a uniquely engaging and entertaining cultural resource. The films shown in the space are constantly changing, and the range of featured moving image works can't be seen anywhere else. Some have screened once on community television or at a graduate screening, while others have only been seen by family and friends. The space includes seldom-seen but much-admired works that have won awards and screened around the world, but now cannot be seen anywhere else.

From those who have only dreamt of making a movie, to independent filmmakers eager to show-off their talents, the Memory Grid at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image is for everyone.

Show your short film at ACMI!
