In the heart of rural Mississippi, twin brothers face down a family of vampires in Ryan Coogler’s genre-defying blend of blood, the blues and Black mythology.
In 1932 Mississippi, twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore (Michael B. Jordan in a dual role) return home after years with a Chicago crime outfit, with a plan to open a juke joint and uplift their community. On opening night, the raucous crowd faces some uninvited guests: a clan of vampire drifters (led by Jack O’Connell), demanding access to their stage. Loyalties fracture, bodies fall and the brothers’ dream becomes a nightmare, in a tale of bloodlines, broken faith and survival.
After a seismic run of big-budget franchise triumphs, director Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed) returns with something wholly his own – part genre film, part racial allegory, part cultural reclamation. If that sounds like a cake stuffed with too many ingredients, that’s exactly what makes Coogler’s confection so delectable. Sinners is as bold and rebellious as it is assured, expanding the filmmaker’s vision while offering something rare – the work of a risk-taking auteur operating at studio scale, alive with energy and surprise.
"Coogler has delivered one of the best blockbusters of the year, and that it has a heart and brain behind all the blood-drenched thrills just makes it that much more satisfying."
