This year's Sundance Film Festival heralded the arrival of an exciting new voice in triple-threat director Eva Victor and her honest and emotionally articulate dramedy.
A bad thing has happened.
Agnes was the head of her class in college when it took place, and now, years later, although she is successful in her field, she’s stuck. She works at the same college, she lives in the same house, and while her life feels motionless, her friends and the world around her are changing.
Curator’s Note
The directorial debut of triple-threat Eva Victor wowed audiences when it premiered at Sundance and has won hearts and awards ever since.
At the heart of the film is an award-winning screenplay by Victor that expertly balances trauma with a wry sense of humour. There is a central performance by Victor that somehow manages to be vulnerable and stoic at the same time. And should we mention her direction? It feels miles ahead of the first-timer pack.
Gluing all of this together is a profound sense of honesty and authenticity that fills every corner of the film. Other films attempted to cover similar terrain this year without this - for example, Luca Guadagnino's After the Hunt - but Sorry, Baby need not apologise; it's the one that truly succeeded.
"It officially announces the arrival of Victor as a performer and filmmaker to keep on your radar."Aisha HarrisNPR
