A super-sized week of films about the art and artists of drag who blazed a trail in this irreverent, outrageous and unapologetic performance style.

The history of drag on screen is a rich and diverse one, spanning back as far as the silent era. With the explosion of drag into the mainstream due to the popularity of films such as The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and the phenomenon that is RuPaul's Drag Race, it's worth remembering the subversive and anarchic origins of drag. It's an art form that thrived in underground clubs, lived on the margins of midnight movies, started riots and gave a lacquered middle finger to conformity. All the while preaching its in-your-face mantra defiantly: make them squirm and make them laugh.

In Drag Week we showcase and celebrate some of the iconic figures and films that put drag in the spotlight and helped create a subculture that continues to evolve and thrive. These films walked so RuPaul's Drag Race could run – in heels!
