Buckle up for John Carpenter’s campy killer-car classic – a high-octane onslaught of chrome and car-nage, from the pages of Stephen King.

When gawky teen Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) rescues Christine – a rusting 1958 Plymouth Fury – from the scrap heap, he unwittingly awakens a dormant darkness. As he restores the car to its former glory, Arnie falls under its spell, transforming from mild-mannered nerd into an obsessive, hot-headed rebel.

But there’s something far more sinister lurking under Christine’s hood: a murderous, supernatural evil, eager to exact violent revenge on anyone who stands in her way.

Produced during John Carpenter’s unparalleled early run of cult classics – after genre-defining films Halloween, Escape From New York and The ThingChristine pairs the director with Stephen King at the height of his own cinematic hot streak. Following auteur-driven adaptations from Kubrick (The Shining), De Palma (Carrie) and Cronenberg (The Dead Zone), Carpenter’s take is a different beast; drawn from source material that captures King at his substance-fuelled silliest, Christine is a pulpy joyride, propelled by one of Carpenter’s signature synth scores.

Christine is a perfectly enjoyable tale of the macabre, which can be read as a satirical parable of that particularly male kind of arrested development which manifests itself in car obsession.
