A treacherous spin on good-cop-bad-cop takes hold in this gripping, early-2000s Hong Kong crime classic that inspired The Departed.

In the criminal underworld of Hong Kong, two cops maintain opposite sides of the same deception: one an undercover gangster (Tony Leung Chiu-wai), the other a mole for a powerful crime syndicate (Andy Lau). Locked in a cat-and-mouse chase, each man races to expose the other before their own cover is blown.

A sleek, morally fraught thriller that became a global phenomenon, Infernal Affairs would later serve as the basis for Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winner The Departed.

A masterclass in narrative precision and moral ambiguity, Infernal Affairs pits two anti-heroes against one another in a mirrored game of identity and betrayal – where black and white bleed together in uneasy shades of grey. Anchored by a beautifully conflicted performance from Leung, co-directors Alan Mak and Andrew Lau’s kinetic crime thriller is a modern Hong Kong classic, whose seething tension and psychological undercurrents elevate it beyond the genre trappings.
