A razor-sharp neo-noir set in the violent underworld of Macau, featuring one of Tony Leung Chiu-wai’s most cold-blooded, magnetic performances of the 1990s.
Produced by Johnnie To 杜琪峯 and Wai Ka-fai 韋家輝, The Longest Nite follows a corrupt cop (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) caught in a vicious gang rivalry spiralling out of control over a single, brutal night. Patrick Yau 游達志 orchestrates a tightly wound thriller of double-crosses, shifting allegiances and existential dread, with Leung embodying a man whose moral decay mirrors the city’s descent into chaos.
Now regarded as a cult classic of Hong Kong crime cinema, The Longest Nite showcases a darker, sharper edge to Leung’s screen persona – a companion to his iconic roles in Hard Boiled 辣手神探 and Infernal Affairs 無間道. With its stark lighting, elliptical storytelling and unforgettable final showdown, The Longest Nite remains one of the most stylish and influential crime films of its decade.
Selected by the Chinese Independent Film Foundation.
Visually stylish and has, in Leung and Lau, two extraordinarily charismatic stars.
