Celebrate the launch of KinoTopia’s first print magazine, Katies, with a rare 20th anniversary screening of classic Melbourne film, Jisoe.

A quintessential documentary exploring the underbelly and train yards of suburban Melbourne, Eddie Martin’s debut Jisoe offers a snapshot into the life of the graffiti artist, Justin ‘Jisoe’ Hughes.

Painting the margins of Melbourne in the early 2000s, Jisoe offers an intimate look at a life shaped by the relentless drive to build a growing photobook of painted trains. Uniquely Melbourne – at times humorous, and often bittersweet – Jisoe is a story of a rapidly changing city, and a troubled artist’s contribution to a lasting subculture.

Twenty years on, this screening is an opportunity to view and discuss the film through fresh eyes considering shifting attitudes towards subcultures, the gentrification of Melbourne and documentary’s ability to capture and preserve important and defined moments.

Jisoe will be preceded by a rare 35mm print screening of Kasimir Burgess & Edwin McGill's 2007 short film Booth Story.
