Join us in the cinema for Kahlil Joseph's Director's Cut of Lemonade, Beyoncé's groundbreaking visual album – a very rare viewing experience reserved only for art museums.
Curator's Note
This film was born at a moment of profound rupture and arrival in my life, following the death of my brother, Noah Davis, and the birth of my first child. Grief and joy existed simultaneously, shaping how I approached image, sound, and narrative.
When Beyoncé reached out, she, too, was moving through a period of loss. There was an immediate alignment, a shared emotional register that informed the work from its inception. Much of Lemonade was developed out of the Underground Museum in Los Angeles, a space my brother and I built as a site for experimentation and community.
The parameters were both precise and expansive: Louisiana as the setting; a meditation on rupture, trust, and Black womanhood; a work that moves toward healing and empowerment; and a six-week timeline to realise it.
What emerged is a film that operates as both visual album and emotional architecture, an exploration of memory, betrayal and reclamation, grounded in place and carried by music.
