Join us for the quintessential African road movie – Djibril Diop Mambéty's classic film of 1970s counterculture.

A groundbreaking example of avant-garde cinema, Touki Bouki tells the story of two young lovers, Mory and Anta, who dream of a new life in France together and of escaping the disenchantment of post-independence.

Senegalese filmmaker Djibril Diop Mambéty mixes spirituality and stories that predate colonial French incursion, with frenetic rhythm and non-linear narrative. Pioneering a cinema language, Mambéty paints a vibrant picture of Senegalese youth whose life paths for the better or worse are far different to that of their ancestors.

One of the most singular and striking debuts in the history of international cinema.
