A wild Hong Kong horror action film that gleefully blends martial arts, ancient curses and outlandish practical effects.

Dr Yuan (Chin Siu-ho), a world-famous explorer, is cursed with the seven blood curses after he tries to rescue a young woman held captive in the jungles of Thailand from a bloodthirsty supernatural cult called the Worm Tribe. Each curse gets deadlier with time as he races against the clock to find a cure before the final curse develops. With the aid of a plucky reporter (Maggie Cheung) and the famous pipe-smoking adventurer Wisely (Chow Yun-fat), Dr Yuan travels to Thailand to defeat the Worm Tribe leader and break the curse before it's too late.

Curator's note
If Chow Yun-fat armed with a bazooka while puffing on a pipe was the pinnacle of this film, you would be going home satisfied – but The Seventh Curse, not one to rest on its laurels, delivers more. So much more! Based on a series of popular adventure novels by Ni Kuang, director Lam Ngai Kai takes the horror elements of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and remixes them with off-the-wall martial arts stunts, globetrotting adventure and jaw-dropping practical monster effects. A great time at the movies, this maximalist feature exemplifies the unique genre pocket that Hong Kong horror excels in.

A cult Hong Kong horror-comedy gem, filled with booby-trapped ancient temples, flying kung-fu demons and many, many explosions of blood and gore.
