Happyland (2017 )
Who lives among the garbage in these notorious slums?
Fuelled by curiosity, artistic challenge and the desire to offer practical support, Australian street artist Kaff-eine and her international team work with two of Manila’s most impoverished dumpsite slums to make something creative, valuable and special.
Together with the Happyland and Baseco residents, they install large tarpaulins featuring Kaff-eine’s paintings of 10 colourful locals, creating an open-air art exhibition in the slums that celebrates these communities while also providing them with resources for shelter.
Raw, confronting, surprising and visually striking, Happyland invites the audience to meet the communities which have such fearsome reputations: from young garbage scavengers, to nail technicians, school children, laundrywomen, cultural workers and gangsters.
Hear their stories and follow how new friends from very different backgrounds collaborate to bring an ambitious project to life inthe wastelands of Manila.
