The Secret World of Haute Couture (2016)
(A quoi sert la haute couture)
Haute couture is the acropolis of fashion.
It is majestic, impressive and somewhat in ruins - but it remains a symbol.
Its biggest shortcoming is that not many people really know what haute couture is anymore, often confusing it with luxury ready-to-wear.
So what exactly is haute couture?
"It is doxa, a guarantee of quality, a Parisian tradition... In this documentary, I want to explain what haute couture is through the detailed filming of a week of haute couture fashion shows in Paris" explains director Loïc Prigent (producer of last year's Fashion on Film hit documentary The Legacy of Alexander McQueen).
Prigent has exclusive access to all the big names of fashion; Giorgio Armani, Donatella Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, Giambattista Valli, Viktor&Rolf and Karl Lagerfeld, and takes us on a visit to the acclaimed pleaters Lognon and into the ateliers at Dior.
This is the film's Australian premiere.
In French and English with English subtitles.
