The Australian Mediatheque is now permanently closed.
As the analogue material stored in the collection decomposes and technical obsolescence accelerates, we need to ensure long term access to our collection through conservation, preservation and digitisation efforts. We are currently in the process of digitising the collection and making it available online. During digitisation, access may be limited to researchers, and access times may vary depending on the condition of the material requested.
Contact the ACMI Collections team to request access.
ACMI and the National Film and Sound Archive join forces to present a huge collection of accessible audio and video content.
From early footage of the Melbourne Cup and the landmark The Story of the Kelly Gang to award-winning animation and shorts, you could access moving image content for research, learning and entertainment.
The space contained 12 viewing booths. Each booth was fitted with up to four headsets, so you can choose to watch alone or with friends.
You could view a huge range of national and international content, including:
- On-demand digital films
- Highlights from over 100 years of Australian and international film
- Australian television programs
- Video artworks
- Student and community-made short films
- Film stills and publicity materials
